Here’s to a Perfect ’10!

December 21st, 2009

I don’t know about you, but just about every business person I’ve spoken to in the past month or so is sooooo ready to put 2009 behind us and blast into 2010 with renewed energy and optimism.  And you know what…?  That is exactly what we need to kick-start the greatest (if still sleepy) economy on the planet!

True, until substantial new job creation is a reality, the party can’t get started in earnest, but I’ve always felt this recession is only half in our wallets — the other half is clearly in our heads.  So a bit of a pep-rally is a good thing, and that — coupled with “end of the Oughts” (as in ’08, ’09…) — is just what the doctor ordered.

But seriously . . . January is indeed the time, if you haven’t already done so, to give serious thought to the unprecedented opportunities that every “recession survivor” business will encounter as the economy revs back up.  It will be a slow, but steady, ride to the top — but you want to be sure you’re in the ’coaster car (sitting right up front!) when it pulls out of the station.

And I guess that’s where we come in — coming out of this recession, we will all be amazed at the fundamental changes that have taken place in the world of marketing and business communications.  Print media, and, to a lesser extent, broadcast media have been eviscerated by this recession, and in their wake, online technologies (already poised to strike before the ‘R-word’ poked its head over the horizon) have clearly become the dominant — and highly cost effective — media of choice for marketers of all stripes.

I’ll be talking more about what’s changed, what’s worth considering, and how to watch out for the inevitable “snake oil” that is also being peddled — which happens any time something new or unfamiliar comes along.

But make no mistake — it’s going to be a great ride ahead in 2010.  Join me in that front car, won’t ’cha…?  ;)

Finally, I’m “on the Tobloggin”!

November 19th, 2009

Well, after months of hounding, my loyal staff has finally gotten me “on the Tobloggin” (’Tobloggin’…Toboggan…get it? That sounds way cooler and more appropriate for the winter season than ‘on the wagon’) and so I’m now a certified inhabitant of the Blogosphere.  You have my pledge that I won’t waste any time here on the trivial or inane (there’s plenty of that already out there on other blogs).

My mission, as I see it, is to provide a quality blog on topics the team here at Acuity really cares about (or more to the point, topics we think are important for the business health and well-being of our clients; hey, it may sound dull, but it’s “what we do” and I’m certain our clients wouldn’t have it any other way!).

After a big run-up like that, you’re probably all psyched up and ready for some grandiose “ta-daaa” idea, but all I promised I’d do today is start blogging — I didn’t say I’d be profound, right out of the box.  That, friends, I’ll save for my next post.  But trust me…it’ll be worth the wait.  Talk to you again in a few days… ;)
